Magic Mountain Ibiza behind the scenes
The Story, Origins & the Soul of each of our designs
Hamsa pillow is full of details of the elements of Ibiza, fish, lizards, snails, flowers, sunsets, Iconic Island like Es Vedra, but also holds the ancient symbol shared for centuries by different Cultures all though the mediterranean. Hamsa has not only been shared between generations, various countries, cultures & faiths but also stands today used by many.
The Hamsa hand is originally a ancient symbol of protection to ward off evil eye, some historians date it back to Mesopotamian and Cartherginean origin y has been used throughout northern africa and middle east, It has been used in most religions muslim, jewish, catholics all at some point have used the hamsa or mano de fatima as a element of protection.
My personal belief is you don’t see it represented in our recent history in Spain, Italy or France due to the Strong rule the Catholic church had in the region, in Spain it was banned by decree three decades after the end of islamic rule by the church also lead by Emperador Carlos V*, It is believed to have been widely used by the Jewish population fleeing Spain at the time, also we know that all religious images or practices that weren’t catholic were banned and castigated during this time. But throughout other countries of the mediterranean basin it has been used as a daily household object.
